- Artist's description
Acrylic on stretched canvas. I am drawn to vibrant colouring of clothing in the sometimes harsh but beautiful landscapes of southern Africa. These women and children 'emerged' to greet us after some playful 'mark-making' to celebratory music : a discipline I exercise when work load brings stress! Their sense of calm pause (in the midst of vital daily tasks) is a welcome reminder..... and the colouring of their clothing lifts the soul!

- About Pippa Coulson
I am an intuitive artist, constantly learning, whose work is probably best described as semi-abstract acrylic on canvas, (sometimes mixed-media: pastel and paint). I love the freedom and flow of acrylic paint which allows me to practice ‘letting go’ as stories, experiences, images or longings take shape. ‘Listening’ is very important to me – music, people, natural surroundings, events and inner contours yield rich resources which inform the various layers making up a painting. The aim is to allow a painting to tell its own story and images to emerge – it is a discipline and a challenge NOT to begin with an ideal which I try to place on the canvas! Perhaps my strongest influence is the quality of light of Africa (where I grew up). I am drawn to vivid colours, naïve shapes and a sense of movement. I have sold paintings locally (UK) and abroad and happily accept commissions. See all of Pippa Coulson's work
